During the height of the Covid pandemic, a certain kind of Christian community opposed to Covid mitigation practices like mask-wearing, social distancing, and (eventually) receiving vaccines advanced a position of “faith over fear.” This language has reappeared with the release of the newest Covid booster by a segment of those who are opposed to taking it. But what exactly do they mean by this? What do they mean by “faith” and “fear”? What social judgements and identities are lodged in this rhetoric?
